Rendlesham Forest information also available on John Hanson's website."click here to visit" REPORTED SIGHTINGS follow below this item. The incident which involved a strange object at the Woodbridge and Bentwaters USAF bases,
1 - was very FIRST investigated by two young researchers, BRENDA BUTLER & DOT STREET, almost twenty years ago.
The following article appeared in "The Evening Star" on 17 November 2000 UFO expert to return
BY RICHARD CURNWELL
THE first investigator to research the Rendlesham UFO sighting will return to the site of the alleged landing this month to look for other strange objects.
Ufologist Brenda Butler claims there has been a marked increase in unidentified flying objects in recent months, which are centred upon Rendlesham Forest, close to the former American air base at Woodbury.
She will be among a group of UFO spotters from throughout East Anglia who will converge on the forest to spend time monitoring the skies to gain evidence to back up their claims.
Mrs Butler, who is writing a book about her UFO experiences, said: "Reports of orange balls, white balls, little people, discs, roaring noises, weird animal noises and footprints all go to show something is still not right in Rendlesham Forest."
Mrs Butler, supervisor in a home for people with learning difficulties, said: "since 1980 there have been lots of sightings but in the last two years there has been an enormous number by members of Skywatch and people living in the area
There is very definitely something going on, if you take into account all these sightings, and I think they are coming in through a door in time. To me they look like holograms."
Mrs Butler takes part in Skywatch groups, which meet monthly, and she has compiled a dossier of evidence to illustrate that many unexplained events are occurring in the skies above the forest.
She was the first person to investigate the 1980 incidents close to the east gate of Woodbury Airfield after an American told a friend of Mrs Butler's what he had seen.
But it was not until 1983 the story became world famous with the publication of an official memo written by deputy base commander Lt Col Charles Halt.
He wrote about "unexplained lights" and the experience of three patrolmen who saw a glowing object.
"The object was described as being metallic in appearance and triangular in shape, approximately two to three metres across the base and about two metres high. It illuminated the entire forest with a white light.
"The object itself had a pulsing red light on top and a bank of blue lights underneath. The object was hovering or on legs. As the patrolmen approached the object, it manoeuvred through the trees and disappeared. At this time the animals on a nearby farm went into a frenzy," he said.

It is a place where strange lights and events regularly occur twenty years on - when I believe some persons, "sensitized or psychic", are viewing (tuned into) other realms of existence at a quantum level. Events on forest track 12
One of the party started crying, to run, and spoke in a strange language for over an hour. Another was in telepathic communication. During a three-way communication with "entities", it transpired that
The two women declined to walk further into the pitch dark. The entities told them to "go in peace" and that they would meet again. The beautiful green lights travelled of the track and dissipated through the trees. Next day one of the couple had a burning red face & chest, like happened earlier during June - however she felt rejuvenated. Interview 30 June 2000 with former member of the 1980 "secret police".
The interviewee said "he heard strange noises, similar to those made by tunnel diggers",
as he walked through the woods on 25 June 2000.
Next day when he was fishing at Wantisden Lake, he and two friends saw an orange glow over the trees
towards Woodbridge base & Rendlesham. The intensity of the orange ball of light increased.
They pursued it in their car down a track to get a better view as it travelled over the tree tops, when it went off towards the area of Woodbridge air base.
At 21.30 hours the following day, they decided to park at the side of the road alongside the Woodbridge runway, to observe.
Later a light appeared to the left of the car park, which they followed, on foot, until they arrived in front of the East Gate.
It was now 22.45 hours and sight of the light had been lost. However, when they looked up, they saw numerous orange lights, everywhere - large and small ones - descending behind the trees in front of them.
He said he had seen weird goings-on in the forest when he was on "duty" during 1980 - lights and tall thin people disappearing underground, down tunnels.
It is a very dangerous place since strange events are still happening. He advised visitors to act with caution.
When asked if any experiments had been performed here, he replied "during the war time, and during the 70's and 80's, mind control ones had been carried out on some of the young soldiers".
On his departure, he said he had decided to make contact because of all the activity here.
Brenda Butler in Conversation with
The contactee, said he was astounded to read in her book "You Can't tell the People", that Georgina Bruni had been allowed entry to some of the buildings
in the air base at Woodbridge.
"She must be an MOD lady", he commented.
He saw and heard many things during his employment with maintenance, which were not allowed to be discussed, especially after the war.
"The sealed sectors, Georgina could not inspect, were decontamination units for soldiers who had been in contact with viruses and other gases -
some died; some were very ill; others had to be sent home", he said.
His weirdest encounters involved tall, spindly people, who used certain doorways to enter and exit buildings, mostly at night.
They never spoke, seemed to be in control and their faces were always concealed by breathing apparatus.
After the war, these strange characters remained on the base for years and might still be there.
When asked if these spindly people were ETs, he replied "they certainly were not human and they always were completely dressed in white, had long arms and wore gloves and helmets". The helmets, which had attached breathing apparatus, were similar to bee keepers' hats.
When he was rewiring one of the bunkers, he suspected they had underground rooms, since he heard muffled voices from below, as well as weird vibrations and a droning noise.
A security guard told him that he did not know what was kept in the many vaults around this particular room. He stressed that it best not to ask questions, although innocent,
could be misconstrued as an offence leading to courtmartial.
Those were sensitive times when one had to be careful not to be judged a spy.
Although some information about past events begins to surface, he suspects that projects still continue there today, in secrecy
under the ground.
Tiredness prevented him from talking further. He requested not to be contacted again,
and said fear would probably deter other retired personnel from speaking up
The 20th Anniversary of the Rendlesham Forest UFO Crash on 27 December 1980.
Wed 27 December 2000
The lights moved into triangular and circular formations, and seemed to be spinning. The display lasted for about five minutes before they disappeared, and was captured on camcorder. Earlier on track 10, several of us had seen flashes, like strobes, moving across the sky just above us. Some saw a mother of pearl coloured ball of light, about the size of a small football, explode into flashes as it travelled across the sky. Later more flashes were seen high in the sky. According to Larry Warren, strobe-like flashes were seen in the sky prior to the incident in 1980 Thurs 28 December 2000
The group then moved to the seat near the sandpit on track 10, when two red lights were observed about 2000 hours. Later, at track 12, we were joined by the Southend UFO Group followed by Larry Warren. When "Colonel Halt's" landing place was reached, Larry & Brenda discussed over the next hour, the events of 1980. Recorded on video. Then Larry led the large group to the spot of his "landing/sighting". Next they proceeded to the "alien tree", at the entrance of the "tunnel" just of track 12 and in front of the field where Larry had had his first sighting. Strangely there is a face of an alien which has grown into the tree (photos below).
From the place of "John Borrough's" sighting, red lights were seen again over the forest. Larry informed that he had seen orange-gold lights in the sky for several minutes the previous night. Sightings phoned to Brenda & local radio

LOCAL HISTORY: Theo Fenning phoned Radio Suffolk to inform that his parents farmed the area around Rendlesham. In the 1800's, his grandfather, a Methodist minister, told the local people who had also seen lights around the forest, that they were from the devil. Theo's father, a lad in 1904, could remember being told there were lights coming in and out of the ground at Rendlesham. The villagers and farm workers, who frequently saw these lights on the Butley side of Rendlesham, accepted the phenomenon as a part of their life.

Brenda begins to wonder if the strange red lights frequently seen in the forest are a type of security laser. These appear in different locations "to monitor the movement of people?". Larry Warren noticed them also.

UFO OVER THORPENESS
This is not a story, but something that really happened. It is written from memory sometime after the event, but I have compared my recollections with Nana's, who was with me that evening, and they are almost exactly the same. Had either of us been alone we might well have dismissed what we saw as a fragment of the imagination. Such are the workings of the human mind, always trying to return to known territory, and keep at bay anything that is larger than or beyond our own scrap of understanding. As it is we both constantly checked with each other, as it was happening, that we were both seeing the same thing, and each time we did so, we found ourselves in exact agreement. This is what happened ........... It was a cold spring evening last term. Nana and I both had the evening off and decided we would go to the cinema. We were disappointed to find that we had made a mistake and the film we wanted to see did not start until the following week. However there was a beautiful, clear sky and we decided to cycle to Aldeburgh instead, stopping off at Thorpeness an the way to sit on the beach for a while and watch the stars. Our journey was slow, as Nana's bike was not a good one and she quickly got puffed out. However, eventually, we arrived at Thorpeness. There was a chilly wind blowing In from the sea and we sat huddled together listening to the crashing of waves in the darkness. As it was so cold we thought we wouldn't stay long, but it was such a clear night and the vast display of stars was breathtaking, so we thought it worth a little discomfort. After a short while I became aware of something high up above the sea, which at first looked like a star, but at second glance neither looked nor behaved like a star. It was a yellowish-orange colour, which glowed and seemed to pulsate. It moved about in a very strange manner, not like anything man-made, nor like a meteorite or shooting star. The movements were more like that of an insect, maybe a mosquito or a moth, sometimes hovering, sometimes rocking, sometimes plummeting straight down then zig zagging back up again, or spiralling down and then up again in a great leap. It moved at an incredible speed, and seemed to he very high up, almost as if it were among the stars themselves. I was very curious. I could not think what it might be. Look at that thing there, "I said pointing it out to Nana." Yes, I've been watching it, " she replied, " what is it? " It's movements were natural and flowing, not mechanical and constant like a plane or helicopter. We ran through a series of possibilities: Maybe a satellite, a weather balloon, even a flare sent up from a ship, but we could not find anything known to us that fitted the bill. From this point on I shall begin to use the term UFO, because this is precisely what it was; an object, it was flying and we could not identify it. As we sat watching it, we noticed that it seemed to have a faint tall of light trailing out behind it, very much like the wake of a boat at sea. Then we saw something that was quite incredible. A plane appeared coming from the south. When it got within a certain distance of the UFO, the UFO shot up into the heavens like a luminous spider on an unseen thread of web, and stopped completely still as if pretending to be a star. When the plane was directly below it, it began to follow the flight path of the plane, but at a much higher altitude, and always remaining a certain way behind. It seemed as if it were tracking the plane. At a certain point, it seemed to lose interest and returned to its starting point, the point where It had stopped still and blended in with the stars. Then it began its playful zig zagging and spiralling and rocking movements again. Then when another plane appeared it repeated the whole procedure again. This happened several times. The remarkable thing was that each time it seemed to become aware of the approaching plane at exactly the same point. It became possible to predict when it would suddenly soar upwards and become immobile. Then it would "track" the plane at the same distance above and behind it us before and to exactly the same point, where it would detach itself and fly back to its starting point. Again, each time I could accurately predict the exact moment to Nana when this would happen. It also became apparent that the distance at which the UFO seemed to become aware of the plane seemed to be equal to the distance at which it lost interest in it, so that the starting point of its "tracking" activities lay exactly in the centre of these two points. We watched this procedure over and over again, each describing to the other what we were seeing, to check we weren't imagining anything. Again and again we both saw the same thing .
It was with a sense of wonder that we observed these activities high up against the glittering backdrop of the night sky. Yet distant as the UFO. seemed from where we were sitting I must report a sensation that I had, which maybe was simply a product of my imagination, but which lingers very strongly in my memory of that night, and this is the sensation of contact. By this I mean that I did not simply feel myself to be an observer, I but also felt I was being observed, that the UFO was as aware of us as we were of it. It is the sort of difference we might feel between looking at a face of a statue and looking into the living eyes of another person. I can only own up to this feeling, not state it as a reality beyond my own perceptions, but it remains, like a remembered flavour or smell might, to add a fuller sense to my memories of that night. We must have stayed on the beach for shout an hour despite the fact it was so cold. We bed only intended to stay five or ten minutes, but it had been such a fascinating spectacle we remained rooted to the spot, our gaze fixed up among the stars. Later I was to learn that East Anglia is reputed to have the highest number of reported UFO incidents in Britain, and that ten years ago there was a very famous incident at a local airforce base involving a UFO. I was also to learn that many UFO sightings bore a strong resemblance to our experience; the pulsating nature of the object, the type of movements it made. I can say no more at this point in time about what we saw or what it might mean to the people of Earth, but maybe, within our lifetimes some of these questions will be answered. Who can say? This is what Wilhelm Reich, a scientist whose study of life led him to look into the depths of space and question what he saw there, had to say about such things ........ "There is no proof. There are no authorities whatever. No president, academy, court of law, congress or senate on this earth has the power or knowledge to decide what will be the knowledge of tomorrow." This brings up another important question. Many of us have experience or ask questions of life that take us beyond the limits of what is known in this present time and place on this planet. Whether it be seeing a UFO, or simply a feeling inside, or point of view that does not fit in with general opinion, all too often people are made to feel stupid or crazy for asking such questions of life. But however crazy, far out or silly our questions may seem, we have the right to ask them. However strange our perceptions might seem we have the right to state them. Especially as children our insights and questions are dismissed. ("Don't be silly dear.", "You're too young to understand. etc.). We've all experienced it. Often we convince ourselves that what we saw was just a figment of our imagination, or the question we have asked is stupid. In this way we learn not to trust our own eyes and ears, our own hearts and minds, even the sensations of our own bodies. As Reich says "there are no authorities". After all, people used to believe the world was flat, and if you sailed too far in any direction you would go over the edge. When someone said the world was round, people laughed and said he was crazy. Such is the way with human knowledge also. People think If you go too far in any direction you will go over the edge. They do not realize that the horizons are endless.

12 June 2001 Brenda, Peter & Mason visited the forest to investigate reports of LITTLE MONK-LIKE PEOPLE, about 3 feet tall dressed in monk habits, seen there and also of a DOG mysteriously missing for two hours, then suddenly reappearing. The following was heard in Woodbridge bookshop.
On their return to the car their dog ran off and weirdly started barking at some broom bushes. When they caught up with their dog, they saw about SEVEN little 3 feet high people dressed in MONK habits and FLOATING into the forest, where they quickly disappeared.
Brenda & Peter immediately investigated the regions in the forest they were told about. Force fields were detected in the place where the dog disappeared. At the next place Peter checked his psychic feelings with a radio device which emitted weird noises, and a cold wind was present only at this spot. The monks, familiar to Brenda & Peter, have followed and observed them before, when they have been seen to manifest and dematerialise on several occasions. At another place, one of contact for Brenda when in trance, a communication link was established. She was informed in a strange language, understood by Brenda, that contact had been made with her through several life times during her fearless pursuit for knowledge. She was told that the forest was their home, and to search for a special stone in a certain spot to confirm that she was not imagining the conversation. When the contact departed the air became chilled, and later, on return to their car, Brenda was drawn to a stone with two orange markings near Col. Halt's place. 16 June 2001

It has to be asked:
These little monk-like figures have been seen around the bases and the forest, at least since 1979.
